Description: Maryland Senna (Senna marylandica), native to the eastern United States and suited to USDA zones 5-9, is a hardy perennial known for its beneficial role in supporting pollinators, particularly native bees and butterflies. This plant is occasionally used in traditional medicine for mild laxative effects. While not ideal as a houseplant, it is valued in naturalized gardens for its ecological contributions and striking appearance. Its robust growth makes it an excellent addition to pollinator-friendly landscapes.

Color: The Maryland Senna has vibrant green foliage and produces clusters of bright yellow blooms, followed by slender brown seed pods.

Seed Stratification and Sowing: Seeds benefit from a 24-hour soak in warm water to improve germination. Sow seeds directly outdoors after the last frost, or start indoors with light soil coverage.

Growing Habits and Requirements: Maryland Senna grows up to 3-6 feet tall and thrives in well-draining soil under full sun to partial shade. It is drought-tolerant once established and prefers moderately fertile soil for optimal growth.
