Description: Mullein (Verbascum thapsus), native to Europe, Asia, and naturalized in North America, is known for its tall flowering stalks and beneficial herbal properties. Traditionally used for respiratory health, mullein has soothing and expectorant effects. Ecologically, it serves as a habitat for certain insects and can be a striking ornamental plant in large spaces, though not typically grown as a houseplant. It thrives in USDA zones 3-9.

Color: Mullein features soft, velvety gray-green foliage and tall spikes with bright yellow blooms.

Seed Stratification and Sowing: Mullein seeds benefit from a cold stratification period of 4-6 weeks. Sow seeds on the surface of the soil and keep them lightly moist; germination usually occurs within 2-3 weeks.

Growing Habits and Requirements: Mullein grows as a biennial, forming a basal rosette in its first year and a flowering stalk that can reach 6-8 feet in the second year. It prefers well-draining, sandy or rocky soil and full sun to partial shade for optimal growth.
