Orange Watermelon (Citrullus lanatus), suitable for USDA zones 3-11, is a refreshing, nutrient-rich fruit high in vitamins A and C, antioxidants, and hydration, promoting skin and immune health. This melon, with its low-calorie content and sweet flavor, is ideal for summer gardens but is not suitable as a houseplant due to its sprawling growth habit. The plant has bright green, lobed foliage, and produces round to oblong fruits with a light green rind and vibrant orange flesh.

Sow seeds directly outdoors after the last frost in warm soil, as watermelon does not require stratification; seeds germinate within 7-10 days in optimal conditions. This vine grows best in full sun with well-draining, nutrient-rich soil, spreading out to 10 feet or more, so ample space is essential for a healthy crop.
